Erotic Artbeat Northwest – August Art Shows

One of the most amazing things about Portland is our love of art and all things creative. In our non-monogamous lifestyle we combine our love of art along with our love of sex and we have several venues that host erotic art galleries. The following is a listing of those places, information about their galleries, and when and how you can view them. We will also talk a bit about the artists who are featured there when the information is available.

Gallery Privata

Gallery Privata is well known for all things stylish and posh, but their Art Gallery is one of the featured aspects of the establishment. On Thursday August 1st, 2019 Gallery Privata will be celebrating an opening of the following show.

Than Monk

Than Monk is a multimedia artist, practicing many forms of creative expression, including realistic sculpture, painting, costume design, digital art, photography, boat building, musical instrument fabrication, and graphic design. He is also an award-winning chef, singer, poet, insect collector, and general know-it-all.
His artistic themes range from the unusual to the very extreme, incorporating diverse influences including scientific display, grotesque representation, religious iconography, and erotic symbolism.
Through his work, he seeks to enrich awareness and experience, challenge cultural norms, and cultivate a deeper understanding of identity and personal relations.
He currently resides in Portland, Oregon.

Rituals for Nameless Gods
Rituals for Nameless Gods is an ongoing art project, featuring the beauty and talent of many people. Each piece is created using multiple photos of the same individual, through a collaborative process that allows the subject to choose the poses and concepts, which the artist then assembles and embellishes through digital manipulation. It is the artist’s belief that this dynamic interaction creates a more spontaneous and intimate feel to the finished works.

Unusually colorful for the artist’s work, these pieces explore the line between the sacred and the profane, the acceptable and taboo, the grotesque and the beautiful. Furthermore, without a specific story, they permit freedom of interpretation, allowing the observer a more personal reflection and experience.

Club Privata will be hosting a Public art opening of this artist’s fine work, with no door fee and no membership requirement, from 6-8pm on Thursday August 1st, 2019. Come view the art, talk with the artist, and sample some of the tasty beverages from local breweries, wineries and distillers.

Chazz Gold

Facebook – ChazzGoldFoto/

Chazz Gold is a photographer who has been photographing since 1992. Specializing in portraits and people, Chazz has an elegant and unique style, blending an artistic vision with storytelling. His work specializes in a range of expertise, from nightlife to fine art and everything in between.
Chazz’s easy going personality and modest demeanor give comfort and the confidence to all the subjects with whom he works. He is constantly reinventing himself, collaborating with other artists, designers and models on personal projects.
Chazz recently relocated back to Portland Oregon after a long residency in other cities. In Seattle, he lived and worked as a photographer in the early 90s for Sub-Pop records capturing the birth of the “grunge” scene in its heyday, and the advent of the Seattle rave scene. He lived in San Francisco where he started off a street photographer, wandering the streets of the city, interacting with its residents honing his eye for portraiture in natural light. Creating gallery shows, like his first of many like it, at 111 Minna gallery and club, he coined the “The Random Goddess” that was a benefit for breast cancer and an event with all female DJ’s. In the 90’s working for URB Magazine and Metropolis Magazine, heovered the rapidly growing rave scene that later became the house and techno scene
In early 2009 tragedy struck; Chazz was hurt in a home invasion robbery and sustained a traumatic head injury. After several months in a rehabilitation hospital, with paralysis on the right side of his body and unclear whether a career in photography was still possible, he discovered that Sony with their new mirrorless systems, made a vertical grip with somewhat left-handed shutter release. After a little over a year not doing photography, Chazz was able to persevere and pursue his passion again.
Chazz has built a solid business model and one-man company in Portland Oregon under the names of CGold Photography and Chazzarazzi Nightlife. In 2011, he moved the business to Los Angeles, holding a residency as in-house photographer at King King on Hollywood blvd, Batcave at Medusa Lounge, the internationally known Boiler Room event and the majority of underground events in warehouses. Shooting at world famous nightclubs in Hollywood such as Club Sound, and Playhouse, he also works comfortably in studio or on location, often working with local, national, international clients, shooting lifestyle, conceptual and portrait work.

Shapes of the Divine

This project is literally about capturing light, not just from the images I am projecting onto the human form but the light that exists inside of every one of the people I shoot with. All of the humans involved in this project walked away from their shoot with a feeling that was intended and projected outward of empowerment, confidence and self-love, allowing them to see themselves as truly divine.

My photography is a part of my evolution; not just about becoming a better photographer and artist though, it is about becoming a better human also. In a world plagued with mishaps, blight and darkness, I am a light bearer, a servant to shine light into the dark corners; with photography we bend and capture light to create something of beauty. To immortalize a moment in time. Casting light into the dark places. It is my job to capture that light. I live daily by my motto:

“Capturing the Moments that exist in-between the Moments”

First Thursday Opening is on Thursday August 1st at 7pm;

The monthly open shoots welcome models, makeup artists, and photographers of all skill levels, genders, races, and sexualities. We strive to meet Catalyst’s Mission goals of “a safe and all-inclusive environment that provides learning opportunities, active community, and open exploration of consensual gratification.” The monthly shoots are held on the first Sunday of each month at Catalyst, with occasional special open shoots held at other locations around Portland. The next special open shoot will be held on August 17th at a secluded wooded location.

Skilled photographers and models are on hand to help teach posing, lights, and camera usage and provide other guidance as needed in the space and in the erotic photography industry.

These events have been running for about ten years now. Several well known local models have gained experience and started careers by attending these open shoots. Circus of Brass and Bone

The “Circus of Brass and Bone” Art show is a group art show of curiosities created by over 40 artists. Curated by local artist and curator Chris Haberman and OneDer Gallery, the Circus of Brass and Bone is a one day only First Friday event being held at Milwaukie’s own Beer Store Gallery as part of their Monthly First Friday showing.

This is a cash and carry art gala where all art is priced to sell at $100 or less. There are too many artists to list, but we’re told that the artists hail from all corners of our community featuring artists that are sex positive, and also several that are from the LGBTQ communities. It includes art from the extraordinary to the extra-extraordinary, with some nude studies, but all of the art works are most definitely anything but dull.

This is a great time to check out the work of some artists you’ve might not seen before and while you’re there, enjoy some live music provided by Centaurs of Attention, and enjoy some beer from their beer garden. You can even expose the kids to some fine art, as this is an all ages show until 8pm.

You can attend this show on Friday August 2nd from 5pm until 10pm at

Beer Store Milwaukie

Milwaukie, OR, 97222

Scandals

Scandals exists as one of Portland’s most established gay bars since 1979. Having gone through many levels of transition over the last few decades, Scandals currently exists in the original “PinkTriangle” section of downtown Portland on SW Stark St. & SW 12th St.
Like any venue, club, or restaurant; Scandals has adapted over the years to fulfill the needs of a community that looks for a common ground venue to meet new friends and much more… Scandals is Portland’s Gay “Cheers.”
Scandals has been happy to lend its wall space to local artists for several years, and 2019 is no different.  New art shows open on First Thursdays and go for 1-2 months, so head on down and check out the latest show.

Levant.K

Levant was born in Istanbul, Turkey and moved to the US in the late 1980’s. At 25 while living in NYC, he  restored and conserved 14th-15th-16th century French and Flemish and Medieval tapestries that now reside in museums and residences. This talent has transformed into how his art is displayed. Inspired by neo concrete art and minimalistic movements, Levant’s pieces are studies in pattern, texture, and multi dimensions. He incorporates various recycled and repurposed materials such as cardboard, wood, canvas, and mirror.
