One of the most amazing things about Portland is our love of art and all things creative. In our non-monogamous lifestyle we combine our love of art, along with our love of sex and we have several venues that host erotic art galleries. The following is a listing of those places, information about their galleries, and when and how you can view them. We will also talk a bit about the artists who are featured there when the information is available.
Gallery Privata is well known for all things stylish and posh, but their Art Gallery is one of the featured aspects of the establishment. On Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 Gallery Privata will be celebrating an opening of the artistry of two unique but distinctly different artists, including…
Cyrus Dvorak was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and during his youth he was obsessed with animation. He acquired his first 8mm camera at the age of seven and began making stop-motion films in his backyard. This turned into studying the animation process through his adolescence with classes at Saturday Academy and the NW Film Center. He continued to pursue art/animation as a hobby through High School, receiving his diploma in 2000.
In 2008, with his wife and son, he relocated to Fort Lauderdale for a manufacturing job. After a few months, he awoke to find the right side of his body paralyzed and shortly after was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis . During his recovery, he decided to pursue his dream of being a professional artist/animator. Since his initial MS attack, Cyrus has moved back to Portland, received his associates degree from Clackamas Community College and is currently enrolled at Portland State University, finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Art Practices with a double minor in Design and Film Studies, in spring 2019.
Being an artist and having a disability has awoken something inside Cyrus. He regularly uses his art as therapy for healing his malfunctioning nervous system. Through art, Cyrus gains a sense of normality by stimulating broken neural pathways and rerouting new connections. He was born right side dominant and since his MS he has had to relearn many simple tasks. He enjoys trying new mediums, learning new techniques, and pushing himself while not being afraid to fail. Cyrus is inspired by color, spontaneity, movement, the human form, and acceptance of what he cannot do. He spends time doing ceramics, photography, sculpting, drawing, painting, animating, and experimenting with digital media.

During 2018, Cyrus put his animation on hold and has been focusing on life drawing and painting of the nude female form with a colorful palette. Inspired by the expressionism paintings of the German painter Ernst Kirchner, Cyrus have been experimenting with color, form, sexuality, while adopting elements of Kirchner’s style into his own work. The fact that Cyrus is right-side dominant and has right-sided weakness contributes heavily to his unique style. There is a great deal of learning, frustration, enjoyment, and pain in each piece he produces.
In this series, the works Cyrus has created are representational of expressionism, the human form, and the pushing of boundaries. The deeper Cyrus got into the creation of this series the harder he pushed the boundaries of the ‘erotic’ vs. ‘perversion’ and the idea of color theory in sexuality. His use of color is another element of beauty intended to evoke feelings of surprise, passion, and the moment. Cyrus is a very colorful person in and out of the studio and since his return from sunny Florida, he has successfully weeded black from his wardrobe. So, if you see a very colorful person in the streets of Portland, chances are it could be Cyrus.

Jeff Tao a.k.a. Boonanah Maca
Jeff Tao is a self taught artist who has been honing his skills as a painter for about 20 years, with the last 6 years being the most prolific and profound. After spending 3 months in the jungles of Peru working for a permaculture facility/ ayahuasca healing center, his art changed dramatically. Before the experience, his art was much darker in concept, influenced by psychological pain, a “dark night of the soul” had occurred in his life so he went in search of spiritual healing. The whole experience gave him new insights, new techniques, new visual acuity, new concepts, and a new understanding of his vision… Along with the most profound gift, the realization that self love was his ticket to a more authentic life. So, when he returned home creating the art became the most important part of his internal healing. In his commitment to sharing and exposing others to the quantumness of life, he hopes to open minds to the idea of the fractal properties of a multidimensional universe combined with the powerful creative energy of sex.
The art attempts to offer up a glimpse into quantum realities and sexual energy. Inspiration comes in the form of distorted perceptions of the microcosm of the mind, spirit, and body. The colors and use of fluorescence is in alignment with the visuals in an ayahuasca ceremony. After viewing this you may understand how entheogenics have played a part in the development of this work.

Luna is a mom of two lovely children, that she highly enjoys spending time with. During the day she is currently unemployed, but looking for work within the doggy care world.
Luna is poly, and enjoys a good amount of kink. She lives the lifestyle 24/7. Luna is a switch, and is currently doing a ton of exploring of her dominant side. She enjoys flogging and rope… Luna especially loves rope. She feels there is much beauty in it and is always on the lookout to photograph it. The kink world allows her to explore a world of photography that not many consider to explore.
Luna is a self taught photographer. She started back in 2007 and never stopped. She started with landscapes and other things she found pretty while hiking. Over the years her subjects changed and she started doing portraits around 2010. That’s when she decided to attend some photography classes at the Art Institute. Luna watched her photography grow, and fell in love with boudoir. All the kink, group, and couple boudoir shoots kind of happened afterwards. With the lifestyle being a major part of her life, she wanted to bring that in. Luna enjoys seeing the human body in such a way that gives out intimacy and vulnerability, ‘I find so much beauty in it.’ She says. However, vanilla work is still available upon request. Luna is also working on some new projects for 2019, to help her challenge herself, and see what all she can do this year.
Art by Luna
This show was a bit spur-of-the-moment type, but the theme is black & white, adult fine art. It’s a bit more of the direction I am wanting to go with my work. I have a huge passion for black & whites. I think the lack of color helps give the pieces more of a relaxing/serenity feel to them. I have mixed in some classic boudoir with light kink to help show some diversity to my work. I have also mixed in more couples to the mix. I have enjoyed working with couples in this form as it helps me explore a bit more candid side of photography, which I have been loving. It helps give the more natural side of the intimacy, that I like.

Angst Gallery has also participated in downtown mainstays such as Art in the Heart, Cruise the ‘Couve, and Sip and Stroll.
More than just a place to show art, Angst Gallery is also a safe space for community discussion, where all people are respected for who they are. We donate the use of the space to organizations that work for human rights and progressive social change.
Celebration of the Male Form
Art museums around the world are filled with images and representations of the human figure. Some of the Western World’s most famous and compelling works depict people, both clothed and unclothed. It usually goes unnoticed that the art has a disproportionate amount of female figures compared to male figures, especially nude forms.
Angst Gallery showcases the male form at the beginning of each year in order to bring more balance to the equation. We see this as an opportunity to appreciate the male body for what it is–natural, beautiful, and worthy of aesthetic examination–while also acknowledging the gender imbalance in the art world both behind the scenes as well as in the work being displayed in museums and galleries. The show will include depictions of the male form in various media.
