“Cock” a play by Mike Bartlett

The Lunchbox Theatre, a student drama club at Pacific University will be featuring a play titled “Cock” written by Mike Bartlett in 2009 and premiered at the Royal Court Theater in London in 2011.

The play, being produced by local students, and directed by Brennan Lucas Staffieri, is about a man who has identified as gay his entirely life. When he and his long time partner have a brief separation, he falls in love with a woman, and ends up having his first vaginal sex experience of his life… and it suddenly puts him into an identity crisis because it causes him to question his own homosexuality.

It explores the concept of exploring the complications in his newly found bisexuality and the ensuing struggles that occur when he realizes how much he enjoys heterosexual intercourse through vaginal sex, yet still feels very strongly about his connection to his homosexuality. The play explores his struggles even within himself to accept the very real possibility that Bi-sexuality is an acceptable outcome, and as we delve more deeply into the conundrum, it also explores how his to partners whom are very polarized in their own sexualities, refuse to accept his bisexuality or his feelings for his other partner.

Its a play that was harshly criticized in its day and the strong sexualized gay content caused it to be banned in some countries.

The play will be showing in the Teatro Barbara, Warner Hall at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. with free general admission on April 11, 12, 13 at 7pm.
